You’ll support the Sustainability Strategy manager in delivering initiatives that drive carbon reductions and wider sustainability benefits. You will ensure changes are embedded and drive the communication and roll out of new materials and technologies across the business in support of our net zero ambitions. This role provides an opportunity for you to help set the strategic direction of our future carbon journey in a business at the heart of the energy transition.
You’ll be part of a growing, wider team of 14 with National Grid’s newest business unit, Strategic Infrastructure and you will work with professionals across our Electricity Transmission Innovation area’s as well as Sustainability and Environment Teams.

In this case, we’re looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
This will be combined with good knowledge and experience in material management as well a working knowledge of construction activities and processes. Technical understanding of materials, such as concrete, would be advantageous but isn’t essential providing there is the ability to learn and adapt at pace.
Naturally you’ll be passionate about environmental sustainability and performing well as part of a team, as well as delivering great stakeholder support.
Experience of working with any regulatory bodies may be advantageous but isn’t essential and we welcome professionals from any industry with the right skills and passion.

You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Do

You will develop route maps for how National Grid will decarbonise key construction materials in line with our net zero targets, for example in relation to concrete, and work collaboratively across the business to implement initiatives to reduce carbon emissions from our construction activities.

You’ll develop business cases to inform decision making in strategic areas of material management and sourcing.

You’ll be confident in reviewing data and conveying information to different groups in the right way. This includes actively participating in external fourums where you’ll be representing National Grid so taking industry initiatives and implementing them internally (and vice versa) will be really important.

To enable this, you’ll have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £50,000 – £60,000 dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
