National Grid is hiring a Development Manager. This position can be based at either The Strand, London or Warwick, UK.

As the Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our digital landscape. You will collaborate closely with the Product Manager to create a strategic roadmap and product backlog, ensuring that our website remains at the forefront of technology and user engagement. Your innovative mindset will be crucial in recommending new technologies and enhancements that elevate the user experience.

What You'll Do

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop a fully planned and prioritised strategy for development, feeding into the product roadmap alongside the Product Manager.
  • Website Migration & Development: Lead the migration and development of major websites, including the US Customer website and potential rebranding initiatives.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Manage all maintenance tasks across platforms, staying ahead of releases and ensuring they are integrated into the roadmap.
  • Testing Strategy Implementation: Create and implement a comprehensive test strategy to ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Resource Forecasting: Take business and user requirements, effectively size tasks, write user stories, and forecast the necessary resources.
  • Team Management: Line manage Front End and Back End developers and testers, ensuring quality and supporting development and maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Innovation Advisory: Advise the Director on new technologies and innovations to enhance user experience.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work with the Product Manager to ensure each sprint is effectively planned with minimal rollover of development tasks.
  • JIRA Management: Write and refine JIRA tickets to streamline project management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with the Product Manager, UX Designer, content/design teams, agencies, and partners to deliver exceptional results.

About You

 

  • Agile Experience: Proven experience working within an Agile Product Team, with qualifications in the Scrum Framework.
  • Drupal Expertise: Experience with Drupal and a strong understanding of personalisation.
  • Strategic Development: Experience in creating development, testing, and maintenance strategies, with the ability to influence roadmaps and set OKRs.
  • User-Centric Innovations: Demonstrable experience in developing innovations based on user feedback to enhance website experiences.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Leadership Experience: At least 2 years of experience managing a team of developers, with the ability to forecast and budget for additional resources.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work closely with the Product Manager and UX Designer as part of the product management leadership team.
  • Growth Mindset: A proactive approach to change and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with project management tools (JIRA)

What You'll Get

 

  • Competitive Salary: circa £59,000 – £72,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
  • Bonus: Up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance.

This role is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis. 
 
We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be NG House, Warwick, UK or the Strand, London.
