Finance Business Partner - Interconnectors Cost (12 Months FTC)

We’re looking for a passionate Finance Business Partner – Interconnectors (12 Months FTC) to join our National Grid Ventures Interconnectors team! In this role, the individual will support the Interconnectors business unit in accelerating a clean, secure, and affordable energy future through world-class interconnection and offshore assets. They will ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the six interconnectors while supporting, challenging, and driving strategic financial decisions and priorities. The individual will focus on driving sustainable performance improvement, providing management information insights, and enhancing cost efficiency performance. Additionally, they will play a key role in developing talent within the Finance Business Partner (FBP) community and will be responsible for delivering annual operating budgets and associated KPIs.
This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
What You'll Do
- Work with the Controllership team in finance to understand the business cost base and provide financial insights to aid process improvements to drive cost efficiencies
- Lead for FPR (cost saving) reporting and deliver a narrative as to who the business is offsetting headwinds and driving cost efficiencies.
- Act as the finance lead on investment appraisal process within the Operations team, guiding decision making with insight and optimisation opportunities, to ensure that all current and future investments are made in line with the business strategy and value requirements.
- Provide suitable management information to support project decisions and prepare materials for Investment Committees or Final Investment Decisions where required, or submission of government or regulatory submissions as needed.
- Actively contribute to each business area to impact the shape of commercial and non-financial performance related decisions. Drive the management of performance, financial risks and the implementation & maintenance of controls.
- Drive & support effective working relationships across finance and business services, aligning the service provided to the business requirement through the embedded/focused/self-service’ model.
- Work with the operations team to shape the definition of value, key drivers which create value, and the KPIs which measure value; and ensure these are used to inform performance management, decision making, and planning for the future.
- Support the long-term business & financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to drive performance and support in the NGV-wide planning process.
- Support the implementation of continuous improvement and performance excellence activities, consistently achieving strong results
- Present the monthly results in a style suitable for both a finance and non-finance audience, delivering insight and highlighting priority areas for focus, ensuring efficiencies are optimised for the longer term.
- Support development and management of a highly-motivated, capable and adequately-resourced team, driving a performance-management culture that delivers value through employee engagement.
What You'll Have
- Recognised accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
- The ability to influence and impact the decisions and financial performance of senior stakeholders and their teams throughout the relevant business area.
- Strong commercial skills.
- Good strategic outlook. Joins the dots between long term strategy and financial performance, whilst dealing with ambiguity.
- Proven ability to adapt style of financial information presentation to suit a range of stakeholders, both financial and non-financial.
- Experience in Financial analysis and investment appraisal, with track record of successful delivery.
- Planning forecasting and budgeting experience.
- Demonstrated Business Partner experience to act as a trusted advisor using strategic insight to deliver tangible performance improvements.
- Proactively maintaining continued professional development under relevant accountancy body or other recognised professional development.
- Strong understanding of how value is generated and of operating within a regulated business environment.
