About the role

Location: Warwick

 

Leading the Workplace Experience team to deliver safe, efficient and engaging places to work. This team is responsible for managing National Grid’s core office portfolio, operational land & buildings and surplus land across the UK – with a key focus on:

 

  • Developing a strategy for the future of our office portfolio
  • Delivering property compliance across our land & property portfolio
  • Increasing the efficiency of our land & property to deliver enduring savings to the business
  • Delivering excellent customer service for our internal stakeholders

 

The Workplace Experience team are a key enabler for our UK businesses and functions to enhance culture, talent attraction and delivering business strategy – managing offices for 4,000 employees and operational locations for 2,000 field staff.

 

Reporting to the UK Director of Land & Property, you will manage seven direct reports and c. thirty indirect (within the UK Land and Property Directorate) and will establish safe, consistent and professional working practices, effective governance, financial, data and contracts management, day to day process excellence, strategic planning and performance reporting.   
 

Every day, each of our UK based National Grid employees will enjoy at least one service provided by Workplace Experience, this is therefore a high-profile role working with both in-house and contracted teams to ensure provision of effective and efficient office accommodation, delivery of facilities management services and the safety and security of our sites. 

Key Accountabilties

 

  • Providing visible safety leadership to drive a Generative safety culture within the team
  • Ensuring the team is fit for purpose to deliver its strategic priorities. Lead and develop the business model capability to provide the business with industry best practice, new thinking, trends and performance criteria with solid external cross referencing
  • Delivering services to the UK Core business within budget c. £25m per annum and explore ways of delivering enduring efficiencies.
  • Develop our T2 Workplace Strategy for the next regulatory period.
  • Developing and implementing the occupied estate strategy, to enhance the culture, talent and engagement of our people and meet the needs of our UK businesses.
  • Ensuring we have a compliant property estate, meeting our responsibilities as a statutory occupier and a service provider to satisfy all policy and legislation.
  • Developing and implementing the operational land estate strategy to transform the way of working and deliver enduring efficiencies.
  • Working with the CNI Property team to ensure key site infrastructure resilience 24/7 for our CNI locations.
  • Lead the Facilities Management Hard and Soft Services Contract and supply chain review, to ensure reliable cost effective 24/7 operation of all control centres, data centres, offices and call centres. Deliver comprehensive risk management system for key hard and soft FM services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the provision and maintenance of robust mechanisms to maintain statutory, regulatory, SHE, policy and legislation compliance of occupied estate and sub-stations.
  • Developing and implementing a 10-year sustainability plan
About You

 

You will be a natural leader and a strategic thinker with the ability to engage with a wide stakeholder community and influence at all levels up to Director and internal Heads of Business and externally to senior leadership levels within supplier organisations.


You will have experience of transforming leading corporate property teams at a senior level with proven skills in managing a comprehensive property portfolio including offices and land

 

We are also looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of driving a programme of property compliance across a portfolio
  • Clear thought leadership on the future of work and understanding of external market
  • Development and implementation of supply chain strategy including management of complex contracts and supply chain agreements
  • Strong financial & governance stewardship, able to demonstrate experience of financial planning / budgeting and managing a significant budget, with track record of delivering enduring efficiencies.
  • Results orientated and the ability to set challenging targets that stretch the team.  
  • Ability to align senior stakeholders and bring broad based stakeholder groups with them. Collaborative nature with the ability to identify and unlock synergies within the wider business to enhance performance. 
  • Significant experience in ensuring compliance with statutory requirements for the occupied estate
  • Ability to assess the impact of decisions on internal and/or external stakeholders
