National Grid is hiring a Junior Analyst. This position can be based at NG House, Warwick.
About The Role
The Group Strategy, Innovation and Market Analytics (SIMA) team is dedicated to answering high-level strategic questions for National Grid and collaborating with external stakeholders to address broader industry challenges. We combine cutting-edge market intelligence, deep energy sector expertise, and sophisticated modelling tools to provide insights that drive informed commercial and strategic decisions.
What’s in Store for You: We are looking for a motivated Junior Analyst to join our dynamic Strategy and Regulation Team! In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting National Grid Ventures (NGV) by providing analysis on Interconnectors and Offshore Hybrid Assets. You’ll be empowered to enhance and automate cost-benefit analysis (CBA) reporting, build innovative tools, and create compelling visualisations that extract valuable insights from data.
What You'll Do
- Enhance and automate CBA reporting in line with ENTSOE and Ofgem methodologies to support NGV’s decision-making for new projects.
- Build on existing tools to automate comprehensive CBA assessments using your Python skills.
- Improve end-to-end processes, including database interaction, data processing, and reporting in various formats.
- Create engaging visualisations to communicate results and insights effectively.
- Ensure version control of existing and new Python scripts.
About You
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably in a STEM field.
- A self-motivated attitude and a keen interest in the energy sector and decarbonisation challenges.
- Experience coding in Python and a strong understanding of energy markets, particularly in the GB and EU power sectors.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate model outputs into actionable insights.
- A willingness to learn and use databases (e.g., SnowFlake), SQL, Power BI, and GitHub.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit.
We are seeking candidates with limited work experience, potentially fresh out of university, who are eager to kickstart a quantitative career in the energy industry.

- Competitive Salary: circa £39,000 – £43,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).

- This role is offered on a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract
- We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be NG House, Warwick.
