Lead Product Manager - NGV

Location: This position can be based out of either our Warwick or Strand offices.  


Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways.  Hybrid and flexible working is ingrained into Our Culture, this permanent role offers a mix of office and home working.  We are open to discussing the possibility of flexible start and finish times, or compressed hours. This role will be reporting to the Director of Product for National Grid Ventures and working alongside our incredible colleagues in design, engineering and business strategy. Additionally, we are supported by and will support both the transformation office and Chief Product Officer to educate, advocate and implement innovation throughout the company.

About the role

We are seeking an adaptable, outcome and results-oriented Lead Product Manager to oversee a cross-functional team with end-to-end ownership and accountability for one of three new product lines within the low-carbon energy space. The candidate does not need to have domain experience in the energy industry but should be eager and ready to learn quickly. 

The Product will begin early-stage discovery later this quarter, so the candidate will be joining at an integral point to set direction. This means ownership of the product roadmap, monitoring and analytics, establishing the business and value case and pushing the envelope for creative thinking. 

When not expertly steering the team or communicating with c-suite leaders, the candidate will support the Director or Product to establish strategic product direction, help grow the innovation culture and be an advocate for design and digital thinking. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a cross functional Product team of one or more squads
  • Act as the voice of the customer in the definition of innovative digital solutions
  • Work with strategic design to gain an understanding of user personas, pain points and journeys knowing how that informs the roadmap
  • Provide insights into product, technology, and market trends
  • Develop feature lists, user stories, and roadmaps
  • Gather and manage product feedback through surveys, concept testing, analytics tools, and A/B testing
  • Monitor and report on product KPIs
  • You will set and achieve meaningful OKR's for your product and the team.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to scope, design, concept test and deliver innovative solutions
  • Assist with the development of business cases and operating plans
  • Assist in the development of materials to communicate progress to executives
  • Support the Director of Product, Chief Product Officer and Transformation offices to advocate for innovation and digital ways of working

About you

Successful candidates will have

  • Strong background of product management experience 
  • Experience leading larger product teams, delivering in a multi-squad product model
  • Experience using influence without authority in the broader organization to unblock product teams
  • A strong understanding of agile development methodologies and the software development lifecycle
  • A demonstrated and focused desire to build products and services that customers will love
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) as well as storytelling skills
  • The capacity for self-motivation, independent initiative and creative problem-solving
