As Principal Network Engineer within our operational technology (OT) team, you’ll be the technical leader of the team mentoring and supporting staff to deliver best in class service for stakeholders and customers, whilst ensuring the security and reliability of the network infrastructure is upheld without compromise.


You’ll be responsible for the network design, creation and maintenance, ensuring it successfully meets the requirements of the project and programme, applying industry standard best practice and compliance. This includes enhancing existing infrastructure to ensure it meets future needs, whilst maintaining network security controls.


Visiting substations as required, you’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders and the Technical Architects to lead the development and delivery of OT infrastructure and networks, getting involved with various projects, capacity planning and network design, as well as resolving any issues on the OT network.


You’ll create high and low-level design documents, ensuring capacity and bandwidth constraints are mitigated, and in line with compliance with governance, making sure risk is minimised.


We’re flexible on where you’re based but you will be required to travel to sites and substations on an occasional basis.  This can be combined with hybrid working from home.

 


 

What you'll need

 

With a strong technical background, ideally within telecoms, engineering or utilities, you’ll have worked on OT infrastructure.  Experience in a similar role such as Technical Design Authority, Solution Architect, Principal Network Engineer is key as is experience of developing and implementing complex, mission critical large scale network infrastructure through the project lifecycle.


You’ll be a technical expert in Network Security, Routing and Switching and associated protocols, capacity planning and solution and technical deployment activities in an OT technical environment, and hold industry standard accreditations, such as CCNP, CCIE, ISA/IEC 62443 or similar.


You’ll have knowledge and an interest in networks and cyber security, coupled with experience of maintaining existing infrastructure and leading network design and implementation of new hardware and technologies through network re-fresh projects.


Proactive and forward thinking, capable of looking into the longer term to identify potential future challenges and determine solutions, you’ll have the ability to engage and command respect when engaging at senior levels with all key stakeholders as well as technical leadership experience. You’ll be able to clearly communicate technical aspects of the project with relevance to the overall delivery.
