We are looking for a passionate Operational Accounting Manager to join our Business Services (Accounting Services) team to oversee a broad range of Finance/ RtR activities from journal processing, through to balance sheet/ P&L assurance, and will play a crucial role in National Grid meeting our statutory and regulatory reporting obligations, and SOx requirements.

 

The Operational Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring that a portfolio of RtR Opex finance processes is delivered effectively and that customer expectations are met. You will be working closely with 8 onshore and 10 offshore colleagues; the Operational Accounting Manager will deliver process excellence and evolution alongside developing and maintaining relationships with finance customers that enhance the value offered by RtR.

 

This role can be based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two or three days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do:

  • Drive customer service as a key pillar of the strategic agenda, actively working to understand and address customer needs, and acting on feedback to improve cNPS, and role modelling ‘responsive, reliable, and easy to deal with.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed to time, budget and quality, with a key focus on ensuring SOx and business control compliance, wider finance engagement with the process, and insightful reporting. 
  • Lead a highly motivated, innovative and customer focused team both onshore and offshore, developing talent and a performance management culture that drives value through staff engagement. Manage the team through periods of change and transition effectively, maintaining the quality of our work and supporting colleagues.
  • Develop, refine and deliver SLA’s, SOP’s and training programs that ensure quality of service. Implement and deliver against operational KPI’s and CPI’s so that performance can be understood and sustainably improved. 
  • Ensure all processes are documented and assessed through the process assessment methodology. Drive improvements in process maturity without compromising cost, service, or control. 
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the importance of stakeholder management and customer delivery, establishing networks and frameworks that utilize wider NG functions (eg. CoE). Build strong relationships within Finance and wider that utilize the matrix structure.
  • Understand and utilize the importance of data, and data architecture in delivering the NG Finance vision, working with the FDRO to ensure we make our business outcomes better and more efficient

 

What You'll Have:

  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
  • SOx Experience is essential.
  • Value driving mindset around process improvements, outputs for customer and value.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and knowledge of financial modelling in Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and good judgement in areas where decisions can have a significant financial impact.
  • Must be able to connect well with the businesses, understand their needs and prioritise multiple demands in accordance with business priorities.
  • Governance, risk, and internal control frameworks experience is essential for this role.

What You'll Get:

Up to £72,000 per annum depending on experience.
