National Grid is hiring an Outage Planner for our Customer Connections department based in Warwick, London and Bristol.
About the role
In this role you will identify high risks and critical paths through the outage programme which if left unmanaged are likely to have a significant impact on Capital Delivery’s programme of work.
What you'll do
- Gaining support when required, identify critical paths through the outage plan, bundle these up and allocate to a Senior Project Manager to manage; assist in the coordination of these critical paths as they cover multiple works being delivered by multiple contractors
- Support ‘the current year projects at risk’ process; identify issues which have the potential to impact the overall delivery of the plan and communicate this is in a succinct way to a wide cross section of stakeholders
- Support the year ahead projects at risk process and identify those issues which have the potential to cause major disruption to the delivery of the capital plan
- Implement project reviews as a result of current year or year ahead projects at risk to ensure appropriate mitigation is being put in place
- Propose solutions to issues in the current year or year ahead which cannot be seen from a Delivery Unit perspective
- Support initiatives to drive up the efficient and effective use of system access across Capital Delivery
- Approve schedule related change requests
- Obtaining support from senior colleagues (Senior Outage Coordination Engineer), develop skills and build capacity to handle work independently. Handle routine issues and cases whilst escalating complex ones
What you'll need
- Good knowledge of the outage planning process
- Have an understanding of the systems used to book and amend system outages
- Knowledge of the National Grid Electricity Network and Commissioning Principles would be beneficial
- Can work to tight deadlines with conflicting priorities
- Have a basic understanding of project management, scheduling principles and cost management
- Have the ability to build strong relationships and be able to influence and persuade others from across the business
- Have a recognised qualification
- It is essential to have a current full UK driving licence
