National Grid is hiring Power System Engineers for our Power Quality and Dynamic Performance (PQDP) Team based in Warwick.
About the role
As a Power System Engineer, you’ll lead the design of the electricity transmission system, ensuring optimum system design issues on NGET’s transmission network. Working closely with customers, supporting compliance assessments to ensure that they can connect to the transmission network.
You’ll be involved in discussions and specifications of various technologies, e.g., HVDC and FACTS, collaborating in innovation projects and identifying technical requirements. To ensure compliance with relevant standards, you’ll participate in advanced EMT modelling and system studies such as temporary overvoltages (TOV), harmonic analysis, voltage fluctuations, sub-synchronous torsional interaction (SSTI), and control interactions (CI). You’ll maintain the integrity and safety of the network for all infrastructure and connection developments in the fields of power quality and dynamic performance.
You’ll demonstrate solid understanding of power system fundamentals, power system dynamics, power quality, power system modelling and studies. You will have a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in power system engineering or a related field.
What you'll need
- Knowledge in utilising RMS or EMT simulation tools (preferably DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSCAD).
- Familiarity with dynamic performance studies for HVDC/ FACTS and/or windfarms.
- Good understanding on the application of power electronics-based devices in power systems (e.g., HVDC, FACTS, wind farm).
- Basic comprehension of AC/DC network design.
- Ability to present technical information to a range of stakeholders through written reports and presentations.
- Customer interfacing skills
- Experience in Power Industry/ Consultancy/ Manufacturing would be advantageous.

- Annual salary of £46,000 - £60,000 based on experience
