With the journey to Net Zero moving at pace we are looking to recruit a Power System Engineer to join our Customer Connections team to help us deliver the UK’s decarbonisation ambitions.
As a Power System Engineer, you'll lead the design of the electricity transmission system of the future, using your knowledge and skills to identify the right investments to progress. You'll ensure the integrity of the system is maintained for all infrastructure and connection developments, whilst delivering an affordable network for GB consumers. You'll be responsible for technical policy report writing for internal and external stakeholders' consumption with opportunities to represent National Grid in external technical working groups, seminars and conferences.
As a senior member of our connections team you'll also lead on the coaching and development of the next generation of Power System Engineers within our business.
This role will be based at our Warwick office. We operate a hybrid working approach with around 1-2 days in the office per week. This role may also involve occasional travel to our High Voltage substations with all travel costs fully reimbursed
What you'll need
You will have a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics, ideally leading to membership of the IET or an equivalent engineering institution.
We are looking for individuals who have a demonstrable understanding of the fundamentals of power systems, with analysis experience in one or more of the following areas:
- AC and DC power flows analysis
- Voltage and fault level analysis
- Power system transient stability analysis in Powerfactory and/or other simulation software
You'll have experience of the application of industry technical standards in analysing and designing power systems, in particular those standards used by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) in designing the electricity transmission system. You'll also have experience of working within a customer facing role and be able to demonstrate your understanding of the commercial and regulatory frameworks NGET operate within.
