About The Role
We are looking for a Regulatory Strategy Manager for our Group Regulatory Strategy team. In this key role, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment to help develop and implement a regulatory strategy to support National Grid's strategic and growth ambitions, focusing on the UK.
This position will place you at the centre of efforts to align the UK’s energy infrastructure with government policies, tackle climate change, and advance the transition to net zero. You’ll work closely with UK National Grid businesses – Transmission, Distribution, and Ventures – alongside Group Corporate Strategy and Corporate Affairs teams, to understand and respond to the evolving energy and electricity systems landscape.
National Grid is hiring a Regulatory Strategy Manager for our Strategy & Regulation department. This is a hybrid position that can be located in either Warwick or London.
Key Accountabilities
A key component of your role will be collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders across sectors to bring valuable and varied perspectives to the development of regulatory frameworks and strategies. Building strong relationships with Ofgem and other regulatory bodies to influence key regulatory reforms that underpin the commercial and operational success of the UK’s electricity network. Key accountabilities include:
- Regulatory strategy development: Evaluate the energy sector's commercial, political, and competitive landscape to identify value creation opportunities, formulate strategic responses to the changing environment, and establish regulatory frameworks to support substantial investments in energy networks.
- Regulatory reforms: Manage and coordinate regulatory positions on key industry reform projects. Examples of our current projects are network competition (CATO), long term regulatory framework and commercial strategy, market reform (REMA) and strategic network planning (SSEP, CSNP, RESP).
- Consultation and advocacy: Support regulatory consultations, ensuring alignment with business goals and leveraging insights from internal and external stakeholders, and lead primary research initiatives, gathering input and evidence to support regulatory submissions.
- Strategic analysis and communication: Conduct insightful and research-backed analyses to guide strategic decisions, and lead macroeconomic trend analysis to inform future UK regulatory economic strategy for next price controls and other unregulated investments
- Stakeholder engagement: Establish and maintain a broad network of internal and external contacts, including Ofgem, NESO, government bodies, and industry stakeholders, to influence regulatory reforms aligned with National Grid Group’s strategic priorities.
About You
Our team's diverse activities suit individuals with various backgrounds. Ideal candidates should have:
- Experience of developing and interacting with regulatory frameworks either in the energy sector or other heavily regulated environment such as water, telecoms or financial services.
- A strong strategic thinker, with the ability to see the big picture, but also address shorter term more tactical issues.
- Significant experience of strategy formulation and analysis in large and complex regulated environments
- Ability to work with and influence board, executive level and senior leaders within an organisation, and engage effectively at multiple levels across an organisation.
- Ability to challenge entrenched thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge
- An excellent communicator who can translate complex, technical concepts into easily digestible plain English, and work well with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to group projects.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £60,000 – £80,000 – dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
