National Grid is hiring a Senior Category Buyer. This position can be based at NG House, Warwick.
Job Purpose
Reporting into a Category Manager for the Group Indirects Facilities Management Category, the Senior Buyer is responsible for strategic procurement operations within the aligned business area(s). The role will partner the Category Manager in delivery of Category strategies. This will involve engaging and building strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business, within procurement, and externally, to identify business needs and then ensuring we understand the supply chains so we can offer the best solutions for National Grid.
What You'll Do
- Strategic Sourcing: Lead multiple sourcing events, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and challenge demand, ensuring we deliver the best solutions for National Grid.
- Sourcing Strategy Development: Contribute to the creation and execution of sourcing strategies, managing the entire process from market engagement to contract award, all while driving best-in-class procurement practices.
- Contract Management: Work closely with Contract Managers and Procurement Programme Managers to ensure successful delivery of contracted activities, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and maximising value for money.
- Mentorship: Role model excellence in procurement standards, mentoring Buyers and Associate Buyers to adopt best-in-class methodologies across the National Grid Procurement team.
- Market Insights: Profile category characteristics and research supply markets, providing valuable insights to our Global teams and Market and Supplier Development teams.
- Tender Management: Deliver value by effectively managing tender events for key products required by the business.
- Forward Planning: Contribute to robust forecasting processes, identifying future requirements and maximising the value of goods and services procured.
- Contractual Agreements: Scope and develop regional contractual agreements that meet customer stakeholder requirements and expectations.
About You
- Significant experience in strategic sourcing and category management within Facilities Management, Building Fabric, Minor Constructions, Land Referencing Rights, and Land
- Management, with project spend ranging from £1m to £200m.
- A solid understanding of project management principles, with a proven track record of managing multiple projects and delivering outstanding results.
- Over 5 years of complex procurement delivery experience, demonstrating self-delivered outcomes and approaches.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and manage complex commercial assessment models.
- Experience in framework contract development, including making recommendations and drafting new contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills.
- MCIPS qualification is preferred.

This role is offered on a permenant basis.
We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be NG House, Warwick.
