National Grid is hiring a Senior Software Engineer on a permanent basis. The home office for this role will be our Warwick office - Hybrid Working Policy
Job Purpose
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development of our digital planning tool, which is designed to enhance work planning efficiency across the network. Your expertise will contribute to creating a robust, user-friendly application that replaces traditional spreadsheet methods, enabling planners to work more effectively. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the tool meets the needs of its users while adhering to best practices in software development. Your work will directly impact the digital transformation of National Grid, helping to streamline operations and improve service delivery.
What you'll do
- Be actively involved in the product development process from ideation to launch
- Work closely with different disciplines and key stakeholders across the organization to deliver the best digital experiences for our user
- Write readable, idiomatic, secure, and maintainable code
- Build observable and resilient systems
- Contribute to the engineering culture across the organisation (eg, innovation, process improvements, introduction of technologies, and mentorship)
- Maintain appropriate documentation
- Contribute to system design and architectural discussions
- Constructively challenge to improve processes and ways of working
- Support and mentor more junior engineers
About you
- Full software development lifecycle experience
- Be driven to deliver software products that are of the highest quality and maintainability
- Ability to demonstrate having built solutions in cloud architectures
- Experience working autonomously and managing ambiguity
- Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively
- Experience working in an Agile / Scrum development process
- Enthusiasm to learn new skills and share with the wider engineering community
- A breadth of knowledge across multiple including the following:
- Azure (or alternative cloud provider)
- C#
- TypeScript
- ReactJS
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £65000 – 75000 – dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
