We, Group Strategy, primarily serve National Grid’s Executive Leadership team. We provoke their thinking and ensure they have the clarity to make the right decisions for the future of the business. We focus on projects which sit at the Group level, and cut across several parts of the broader business.
We currently have opportunities for both a Strategy Manager and a Senior Strategy Manager. These vacancies are an opportunity for passionate and ambitious strategic thinkers to shape the overall direction of the company, provide strategic support to our business units and leadership, and contribute to the delivery of society’s ambitious net zero agenda and economic growth targets.

The role can be based in our central London office at the Strand, or at National Grid House in Warwick, with hybrid working arrangements available. Some travel between offices required, working around our colleagues and business needs.
Key Accountabilities
For the Strategy Manager:
- Own and manage strategy projects and workstreams, including scoping, problem structuring, hypothesis development, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and presentation of final deliverables/outputs.
- Communicate complex subjects clearly and simply to senior decision-makers.
- Build and manage relationships with our business units and corporate functions, providing them with strategic foresight on emerging market developments and strategic counsel on high-priority issues.
- Drive clarity on issues of strategic importance for the business by leading meetings and facilitating engaging workshops, tailoring the approach to the audience and context.
For the Senior Strategy Manager:
- Lead large, high-profile strategy projects and programmes, including scoping, problem structuring, hypothesis development, storyboarding, and resource management.
- Build and manage relationships with leadership teams across our business units and corporate functions, providing them with strategic foresight on emerging market developments and strategic counsel on high-priority issues.
- Drive clarity on issues of strategic importance for the business by leading meetings and facilitating engaging workshops, tailoring the approach to the audience and context.
- Coach and develop project teams, direct reports, and contribute to overall team leadership.
About You
We want you in our team if you have…
- A Passion for Energy: Experience in the energy sector or similar regulated markets; in-house or strategy consultancy experience is considered beneficial.
- Strategy Toolkit & Experience: A demonstrable track record of delivering high-priority strategy projects, including:
- Solving strategic challenges and producing quality outputs at pace.
- Managing teams to solve strategic challenges and produce quality outputs at pace.
- Leading and supervising problem structuring, hypothesis development, and analysis to get to the ‘so what’.
- Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to translate complexity into clear and compelling narratives in written, slide, and verbal form, for Executive and Board stakeholders.
- Effective Project Management Toolkit: Strong stakeholder management skills with an ability to lead meetings and build trusted relationships at all levels, including senior leaders.
- People Management and Coaching Skills: Excellent people management and coaching skills to lead others either as direct reports or matrix teams (Senior Strategy Manager).

Strategy Manager Benefits:
- Competitive Salary: £63,000 - £78,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
- Bonus: Up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance.
Senior Strategy Manager Benefits:
- Competitive Salary: £78,000 - £100,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
- Company Car or Car Allowance: Option for a company car or a car allowance.
- Private Medical Insurance: Coverage for you, with an option to pay for family member coverage.
- Bonus: Up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance.

- These role is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis
- We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role can be either The Strand, London or NG House, Warwick.
