Shape the Future of Telecoms Assets at National Grid

 

This is a unique opportunity to influence the evolution of telecoms infrastructure at National Grid. You’ll help set the strategic direction for future processes and play a pivotal role in shaping the development roadmap for next-generation telecoms.

 

We’re seeking a highly skilled professional with deep expertise in telecom technologies — including MPLS-TP, SDH, Fibre Optics, DWDM, and Coherent Networks — to provide end-to-end asset management across the entire equipment lifecycle. In this critical role, you’ll support design assurance, close process gaps, and develop industry-leading policies, procedures, and technical standards that prioritise performance, innovation, and safety.

 

Other responsibilities will include evaluating emerging technologies for integration into the National Grid Transmission System, travelling domestically and internationally to oversee supplier equipment testing, and engaging with a range of stakeholders to stay ahead of regulatory and industry trends.

Must haves:

  • A numerate degree or demonstrable experience in a relevant engineering project environment.
  • Can evidence experience of specification, design, development, maintenance and/or lifetime management of Telecoms equipment (MPLS-TP, SDH, Fibre Optics, DWDM, Coherent Networks).
  • Experience of implementing processes, developing policies and procedures.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the principles of Asset Management.
  • Membership or the ability to be a member of relevant professional body.

Desirable

  • Institute of Asset Management “Principles of Asset Management” certificate.

Pay and Benefits

  • A starting salary £54,000 - £58,000 pa + £3,000 pa Market Supplement + Benefits package
  • Training and Development.
  • 37 hours Mon - Fri
  • 26 days annual leave plus 8 statutory days.
