Maintenance Assistant - Substations
Watford, GB, WD19 4HY
Join National Grid and start a career in the electricity industry.
We’re looking for practically skilled, can-do individuals to join our team as a Maintenance Assistant on high-voltage plant and equipment. No two days are the same — you’ll be out in the field, travelling between substations in a company electric vehicle, inspecting and maintaining the equipment that keeps the UK’s power flowing. From spotting early signs of wear to providing access on sites for 3rd party contractors. You’ll be part of a team that keeps things running safely and efficiently, however you’ll mainly work by yourself focussing on your own responsibilities and productivity. This role is based at Watford and you'll live within 30 minute travel.
This is a role for people who like to work outdoors, think on their feet, and take pride in doing the job right. You’ll follow digital work instructions on an iPad, use tools with confidence, and know how to spot when something’s not quite right. It can be repetitive, but always important. We’ll give you everything you need — full training, tools and PPE, and the support to build a long-term career in the energy sector. All you need to bring is practical know-how, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Must haves;
• You have practical skills and can follow digital work instructions.
• Doesn’t mind working on their own
• Keen eye for detail
• You can use a laptop and iPad
• Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
• Mechanical/electrical or general engineering experience.

• Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
