Job Purpose

The Senior Engineering Manager (Solutions Engineering) is a leadership role and will be responsible for ensuring we have teams that can enable the successful delivery of customer-centric products. Lead and Support teams who plan, design, develop, test, and deploy applications for Technology Products - defining performance objectives and development plans for team members and ensures alignment with department objectives.

They will lead, manage, define objectives and develop teams of dedicated software professionals that incorporate customer-centric design thinking practices and experience, aligning to a Digital Product Agile Model. Promoting open and just culture, innovation to deploy market leading and first-in-the world technologies that exceed the needs of our customers, especially in time and quality as we drive towards achieving net-zero operability by 2025. 

The role holder will be responsible for engaging and building a strong partnership with our third-party suppliers to ensure that we are aligned and focused together in delivering successfully to our customers..

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading and developing a team(s) to deliver consistently in an Agile framework.
  • Building and managing a team.
  • Delivering Epics, Features, user stories.
  • Designing and developing technology solutions and platforms 
  • Continuous technology discovery, innovation and improvement
  • Quality management and technical delivery across customer and technical products
  • Release planning, readiness and execution
  • Application and platform dependency and integration management
  • Solution and platform strategy and roadmap
  • Solution Engineering resource planning, management and development
  • Technical backlog management, Owning the technical backlog and associated processes
  • Adoption and embedding of agile delivery method
  • Solution Engineering budgets and forecasts
  • Ensuring on time, in full and to quality delivery across customer and technical products and platforms.
  • Owning the solution and platform strategy and roadmap
  • Proactively managing the solution engineering resource training and development plans. 
  • Driving the adoption and embedding of agile delivery method across solution engineering teams.
  • Managing the solution engineering budgets and forecasts
  • Partnering and managing a series of vendors to ensure we are well supported. 

 

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Has good leadership, relationship, communication and presentation skills.
  • Has the ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders – e.g. program sponsors.
  • Demonstrate the Valued Business Partner capabilities and behaviours in all interactions with IS Colleagues, vendors and business stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a software development leadership role, leading diverse software engineering teams.
  • Experience of leading and developing multi discipline teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, succinctly, accurately, with clarity and appropriate level of detail.
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to build diverse high-performing teams and optimise team performance and development. 
  • A thorough understanding of Agile Methodology for software delivery, including Kanban, Scrum & SAFe
  • Experience of working with cloud-native architectures, microservices and open APIs.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders.
  • Proven supplier partnership experience. 
  • Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level in large, complex blue-chip organisations, demonstrating strong verbal and written and interpersonal skills. 
  • Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets.
  • Experience of working in a matrix line management environment.

A competitive salary between £65,000 – £82,000 – dependent on capability 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
