The Whole Energy Insights Manager is a strategically important role critical to NESO as it seeks to highlight the complexities of the energy transition and drive progress towards net zero. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop in-depth energy insights, advice, information and analysis. Your work will inform industry stakeholders and government bodies, guiding them towards optimal decisions for the transition to net zero.
This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, or Glasgow and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development of strategically important energy insights, advice, information, and analysis that address the most complex challenges and opportunities in the industry. These insights will inform industry and government so that optimal decisions are made in support of the transition to net zero.
- Establish a reputation for insightful and balanced contributions to energy discussions, demonstrating the ability to communicate complex perspectives in clear, accessible language and supporting NESO’s position as a trusted source of thought leadership.
- Forge and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders across all business areas, encouraging collaboration and a holistic approach to insight development whilst avoiding the creation of silos.
- Build strong and credible relationships with a wide-range of external stakeholders – including political entities, institutions, regulatory bodies, and industry players.
- Ensure NESO’s insights, advice and information are grounded in sound research and data. Develop innovative and evidence-based approaches to framing and answering questions related to NESO’s functions, the energy transition, and the attainment of Net Zero.
- Translate expert analysis into value-adding insight to inform NESO’s leadership's decision making, advice and positions on key topics across a broad range of energy trends and key economic, policy, investment, and financial decisions.
- Assemble and lead cross-functional teams of analysts, internal experts, and external partners to develop energy insights, providing strategic direction and ensuring these insights are backed by robust models and analysis.
- Support the continued evolution of the team by developing robust ways of working, refining tools and frameworks, and enhancing processes to ensure delivery of high-quality insights that address complex energy challenges.
About you
- 5+ years of experience working across multiple energy vectors with a whole system perspective. An understanding of how energy vectors interact is crucial.
- Experience advising senior decision makers on a range of whole energy system topics and being comfortable leading discussions.
- Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Client management experience within a consulting environment is desirable.
- Team leadership experience is desirable but not essential.
- Degree level / relevant professional qualification

Stakeholder management: Your strong engagement skills enable you to see the bigger picture and approach a problem from several different perspectives. You can extract information from busy individuals and build relationships that facilitate the production of materials.
Strategic thinking: You have an interest in assessing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of current and potential energy sources, technologies, and markets
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £54,000 – 70,000 – dependent on experience and capability.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)
In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.
The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.
The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.
